First - A little bit about Ala Moana Beach Park: It's a free public park on the south shore of Oahu, centrally located between Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. This 100-acre park has a wide, gold-sand beach that is over a half-mile long. The water is almost always calm and great for swimming, as it's protected by an outer reef.

It has something for everyone. Not only does it have a great beach, but it also has a large grassy area which makes it a perfect place for events, picnics, barbecues, large family gatherings, and all sorts of other games and activities. The facilities include picnic tables, lifeguards, showers, restrooms, tennis courts, picnic tables, food concessions, and more.

It's easily the largest fireworks display in the state.

Parking can be a problem. Thousands of people converge on the park early in the day. The park typically has enough parking for a regular weekend but not a holiday like the 4th of July.

Don't bother trying to find a parking space there unless you plan to show up at the crack of dawn. Most people simply park nearby and walk or take the bus.

Fireworks always begin at 8:30 p.m. Everyone wants to be front and center, but there is almost no bad place to watch the show from.

The fireworks launch from three platforms on an outcropping of the park called Magic Island. The show can be easily seen by everyone, and we can almost guarantee that several people around you will likely have their radios tuned into FM 92.3 KSSK for a live soundtrack to accompany the show!
